Small Spaces was established in 2011 in response to an emerging social desire to ‘live more lightly’.
Many of us are discovering the many benefits that come from choosing to live in smaller spaces. From reduced expenses to less time spent on home maintenance and a daily commute (= more time for FUN) and an easy conscience from reducing our footprint on this precious earth the rewards are often unexpected and varied.
Living lightly requires thought and a new perspective. At Small Spaces we aim to help with this process through offering considered design solutions that enable and enhance living in a smaller space.
We are a small company with a big mission, and are currently expanding our collection to include storage solutions, multi functional and smaller scaled furniture. We are developing a specialty design service and, through this website, blog posts and a selection of books in store, hope to assist and inspire our customers.
Our philosophy is to have fewer possessions though engage more with those pieces you do own. As so eloquently expressed in the book that inspired Small Spaces…
“Pare down to the essence, but don’t remove the poetry. Keep things clean and unencumbered, but don’t sterilize” -Leonard Koren from Wabi Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers.
This website wouldn’t have happened without the enthusiastic support and intuitive talent of Parish Stapleton (styling) and Marty Lochman (photography).
